Along a global shift towards better holistic wellness and mental health awareness, the independent non-profit organisation SPARK – Society for the Promotion of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Research & Knowledge – is collaborating with Naturally Natured Australia (NNA) this month to explore raise awareness and explore the impacts of nutrient-rich diets on ADHD symptoms.

In a bid to help with the rising numbers of ADHD in children and adolescents, the partnership hopes to highlight how these diets can support the medication and techniques used to aid with dealing with ADHD. Characterised by impulsivity, hyperactivity, and an inability to sustain focused attention, ADHD is one of the most common neuro-behavioural disorders in children.

Set up as an ADHD parent support group to create a community for parents of similar experiences, SPARK Singapore has since endeavoured to foster understanding and acceptance of ADHD children, help families with ADHD children, raise awareness amongst educators and the public, and promote formal research on ADHD – the latest of which being this partnership with NNA.

Together with Dr Chan of Engines of Health and a team of Clinical Nutritionist and Child Psychologists, the partnership will lead an observational study in Singapore on the effects of diet on the symptoms of ADHD in children.

Running for 12 weeks from Sep 30 to Dec 23, NNA will be sponsoring the food for an ADHD child from participating households within the SPARK community, complemented by cooking lessons by Dr Chan. A weekly questionnaire will then be attached to the food boxes sent to them to track the changes exhibited by the child, according to the 12 pillars of ADHD.

Grown and bred using regenerative farming techniques without dangerous chemicals or genetic modification, NNA’s produce is both sustainable and densely packed with nutrition, filled with essential vitamins and minerals easily absorbed by our bodies. Consumers can now find NNA’s incredible produce at select Cold Storage stores.

Results of the study will be published in January 2023.
